I usually try to mount the stereo in the glove box and a cd changer in the trunk under the rear shelf. This way you can have a stock looking dash, no cutting, and less tempting to theives! I keep the stock radio in it's stock location. It is also possible to mount the head unit under the dash between th console and the dash. A little uncomfortable, but it's an option. Or you can get a unit that is new tech, but built for older cars. They are advertised in most rags like Car Craft/Hot Rod etc...
