Thumbs up Birdman, I too have the car I always wanted.. My site shows the 83 I rolled, and my 79 that was stolen.
Great story James...
and my story....
My father-in-law was the second owner who purchased it in 1974. He was Air Force and later got into Vette's but kept the car under tarps in Nevada.
When he passed, my brother-in-laws got the new pick-up, the motor home, the 78 Collector Vette and several pieces of property. He left the Bird to my wife and nobody really wanted anyways since it was in such bad shape.
Today I'm closing in on 30 grand and 4 years of resto, everyone else has pissed away their inheritance.
My wife was dropped off to school in this car as a teenager several times and it is a tangible memory of her father. Never once has she complained about one dime I have spent, however, I did get some raised eyebrows when I said Butler wanted 11 grand to put a new 455 on my dock.
Currently my 400 motor is at "thee Jim Hands" machine shop and we fully expect 400hp when completed.
Next year I do the electronics and custom leather interior with discreet fiber optic lighting. I'm figuring a total of 40 grand when finished.
Can't wait to roll up on a snot-nose in a Honda fart box blarring his rap and then drown him out with some Elvis Presley or Chuck Berry as he watches my taillights disappear.
