If you have the plug wires set up and rotor close to #1 you can static time it by turning the ignition key to the "on position. Have plug wire terminal exposed or use a screwdriver to hold close to ground source on engine and turn distributor while watching for a spark. Once you see a spark you are lined up on TDC and the engine should at least start. Also make sure you have the plug wires going in the proper direction (counterclockwise). Wire that is along the firewall goes to + side of coil, dist. lead to - side. Hope this helps!
