With the cam/head selection in limbo, if I had the engine, I would clean it up, slap it together and take a stab at it. Looks as if it's pretty clean.
What's up with the alternator? I don't see how you can cure the problem with simply mounting a pully on the alternator, probabaly the reason why it's still in a "box." The alt sits back too far. The solution would be an extended pully, but that's not mechanically sound because you are creating a long fulcrum point, causing abnormal pressure on the alternator shaft.
The only soultion would be to modify the bracket to set the alternator out, or get a redesigned one. Even with that, I don't know how well the sytem would behave with a serptine belt because of the relation of the alt and ps pump. You would have to do some homework and see how well other conversions worked out.
