I was reading the Year One catalog for 67-81 Firebirds and found on page 64 (Electrical Section) an Alternator Adapter Harness. Price $14.95 product # HU30.
This is the Year One's description of the product according to the catalog:
This adapter harness fits all 1967-1969 models with external voltage regulator. This allows you to convert your vehicle to an internal regulator-style alternator.
*Note: If you are using a late-style alternator designed to fit 1972-83 models, it must be a non-serpentine-style internally regulated alternator.
Has anyone used this product or made this type of upgrade to your vehicle?
When I was restoring my bird I ordered new wiring harnesses from year one and I specified that I wanted it for int. reg. instead of external and all's it really was is new wiring with that plug on it.Because if I ever was to have charging problem's I did'nt want the guess work of trying to figure out if it was the reg. or the alt? Also when I bought my alt. I bought one with a lifetine guarantee from a reputable auto part's store.
