Some maufacturers have stopped producing fourteen inch tires. The market keeps getting smaller as factory rim sizes get larger. Heck, sixteen inch rims are a standard it seems.
When BFG stops production of fourteen inch tires I'll go to fifteen inch rims. But I don't think they will since they produce radial tires for Diamond Back and Coker Tire brands.
most cars now days are 14" and larger. even saturns which are economy cars run 15" tires! 15" tires are also a popular size for our cars to fill out the wheel well opening. makes it look better from the rear view!

We liked the BFG tires and ran them for years. Our problem is they won't hold up to the heat during the summer down here. The tire separated at the tread. They were still new tires. They say down here that most tires won't hold up of any brand. You definitely have to have a S rated tire unless you have a really light car. We're still running 14".
Classic birds all the way! Like Rock and Roll, they're here to stay!
67 to 69 firebirds never came with 15's anyways so whats the big deal?
most of these cars have changed over to 15s ,seems like....
I know that 70`s ,80`s Volvos all came with 14`s, but skinnier tires.. so they may still find tires for those...
last time I replaced my 245-60-14s on the Firebird I had to got to 235`s , no 245s anymore....I m thinking I may go to 15s eventually ,to get a better choice...
Is it just goodrich that is in question?...For what its worth, I have been happier with my goodyear tires than I was with the BFG's. I admit I rotate them much more often.
Even on my car, I am not happy with the Dunlop tires as far as looks. Just knowing the 68 didn't come with white letters bugs the heck out of me. Can not wait for the Red lines...
I'm using the 275 - 50 on rear.. -Not so tall, -about same height as a 235-60 tire..(which I use front)
Only reason why no cars were using wider tires in the 60's (and early 70's)were the fact that bias-tires wouldn't hold up if wider..
-No one in their right mind would go out and buy original bias ply tires on a daily driven car.. -Only showcars ..
I do however agree that sometimes the tires height vs. stance vs. width looks ,-shall we say awkward..?
-Pathetic is an old bias ply tire on 14 inch wheel, -and tucked away inside a buick gs, a chevelle, a 442, and indeed also a gto..(anyone of these from 1968-forward)..-THAT is looking so goofy.. -there is almost room for an extra tire..
Design studios today have the luxury of choosing any type of tire for their wheel-wells (and still come up with ugly designs).. -that wasn't always the case..
IMO, a minimum of 235/60/15 for the rear.I do not think they look gawdy or pathetic. If anything, the original sized tires look too small for the car.IMO,if you put two identical cars, one with original 14" rally rims and tire sizes next to one with later 15" rallys and the wider tires and the car will have a much more appealing look. I currently have 245/60/15 and they look nice and aggressive.I've had the 275/60/15's on my bird and they make the car look much more aggressive.Anything larger than that and it's a bit overkill for a street car.I personally like the black walls facing out. I have 245/60/15 Dunlops on my 69 cutlass and they look good with the white letters but i'd rather to see them with the black walls out. We all have our own personal tastes, good thing we all fit an FGF into the equation

I (had) Comp T/A 275's under my 67 for drag racing (street legal) that is why I made the comment today and before regarding fitment and clearance issues.
I have 255's under the rear now, and they look, well, big.
I agree that to each his own regarding what tire size, but it becomes obvious when your rear starts tearing up the fenderwell.

this is where knowledge and planning come into play! if you know how to fit a tire into our kind fof car, there wont be any damage to the quarter or wheewell area. again its what you know not what you can spend! using the correct tire size, width and rim backspacing plays an essential roll in all choises for tires. if you know then you wont have damage!

Just take care in what you got. Ive gone threw at least a half dozen sets of rears and they havent fallen off yet. 50 series are too low a profile. Ive already got gear. The stance is what I consider perfect on my car. I want 275s 60 15s. Maybe have to go to Goodyears. See if they are going to still make them. Then Ill have to change the fronts to match. [censored]
