I already had the front frame and underbody media blasted and primed, so POR-15 (on bare metal) is out of the question. What have you folks used as a top coat for these? The front frame and rear end are off of the car, so the body is sitting on a dolly. I do not have a rotisserie, so what is a good way to paint the underbody? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I plan to paint mine with PPG's DP50LF primer and spray DCC Concept single stage urethane, solar red. The car was originally body color everywhere underneath. Inside the wheel wells had an asphalt sort of product layered on top of the body color paint to protect from rock chipping and to deaden noise. I plan to use 3M "body Schutz" to replace that orignal coating.
If you are able to get the car high enough to work underneath it, you can spray using a Devilbis DeKups or 3M PPS paint system. The DeKups offers adapters to fit most major brand guns. DeKups disposable cup system These are bag lined cups that replace the gravity feed cup. It's supposed to cause the gravity fed gun to continue feeding in all positions. I haven't tried it upside down myself, but I'm told it works fine. 3M advertises their PPS system works all positions.
3M PPS System I have the DeKups system and I like it.
I have never heard of JD Blitz Black before. I need to keep that product in mind. After doing a little research it is pretty interesting. It is made by Valspar which sells paint at Lowe's, but is also related to House of Kolor and Plasti-Kote.

What exactly is a single stage urethane? Is base/clear coat finishes considered two stage because there is two layers?
I have heard of body schutz before. In another thread here, there was talk of a full frame 1st gen f-body and the Royal 69 Camaro underbody was done in body schutz. From the V8TV videos, it looks like they were able to shoot it underneath the car while it was up on their fabricated stand.
I never knew that the DeKups and PPS type systems existed. That would definitely make painting upside-down possible. I have an inexpensive ATD HVLP gun, so I need to see if either company makes an adapter for it.
Thanks to you both for your replies.

we use a company called vulcan. they have an epoxy single stage that would work well in this application! the only thing needed is to go over the frame with a wire wheel on an elctric grinder to get rid of the primer. otherwise i would just go for a flat black paint if you dont want to strip the primer off.

Single stage urethane is a 2K urethane paint, meaning it uses an activator or hardener. It's called single stage because it has the gloss built into the paint as a single step application. So it doesn't need a clear coat, though clear coat can be used over it for a deeper gloss. Base/Clear will work okay under the car also. Many use the same base/clear the body gets. Single stage will somewhat be less work since it saves the clear coat step.
