Hey all, I'm pulling my OHC6 to restore the engine compartment and change out the trans. What are the best locations to mount the bolts for the cherry picker chains, or is it better to use straps? I will be pulling everything out the front (not up and over) cause I have the whole front of the car off with the exception of the fenders.
If you pull the intake and exhaust off ahead of time you can bolt to the back intake hole on the head on the driver's side. There should be another hole in the front of the head on the passenger's side. Head over to the ohc forum on ezboard for better advice than mine.
you need to pull the frame mounts and stater. remove the exhaust and hook in locations designated above. criss-cross. one side front to other side rear. good idea to buy a 20$ load/engine leveler from harbor freight! that way the engine doesn't slip backwards. if you have a ohc/3spd combo its just about balances 2/3 of the way back on the engine! it will set completely level on the floor while trans and engine are bolted together! unbolt them and the engine sinks to the floor like the titanic!

due to budget cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been disconnected for non payment.
hey there not too sure how much work you are planning on doing to the front end, engin included, but when i did a rebuild on the motor / tranny swap, i ended up pulling the bumper, lower valance, and radiator mount off (all where being replaced) and i ended up not even lifting the motor, but chaining it up and moving it forward... ...if that makes sense
there is some information on my site about my restoration experience
Hey 32, great website and a great story about your experiance. Your story is a lot like mine in many ways. I just shot the first coats of primer on the body last weekend and now I am pulling the engine to swap the trans. While the engine is out I'm giving it the once-over an cleaning up the engine bay.
