I'm starting to put the body back together. My doors line up perfectly to the rear quarters, but I am having a heck of a time getting the fenders lined up. I can't seem to get the fenders in tight enough to the car. They bulge out past the doors by about a 1/4 inch. Is there supposed to be any spacers in the door hinges to push the doors outwards or do I have to find a way to force the fenders in tighter? These are not the fenders that came on the car, but are original 69 fenders.
you can do this 2 ways. loosen the hinges on the door side and pull them outward to match the fenders or add shims to the lower mounting point on the fender to take up the bulge to thin the fender out. id go for the door hinge first! easiest and most correct way of adjustment!

i dont know if you have the front fenders bolted on yet but its best done with them off. you can slip a small tape measure at the body line and measure how much you need to come out. the fenders being off you can bring the door out to match. if they are on just do so then open the door, loosen up the bolts for the hinge, close the door and gently pry the fender out to match. make sure you are gentle as to not bend the fender!

Thanks. I got them on today. The passenger side was a bear, but the driver's lined up fairly easily. Now to do the final skim coats and all the wet sanding. Hope to be able to go to paint by next summer.
