I have a 68 Firebird "COPO" RAII 4-speed with Carnival red paint. I cannot find any thing on this color to duplicate it. The car has extremely low miles a 1/4 at a time in fact and I am in the process of restoring it. It was a factor race car and was built with no sound deadner or seam sealer 1 of 1 built like this. I was told that the 69 "Judge" factory paint color Carousel red was the same color but I cannot find any info to colaborate this. Do any of you guys have the resources to help me out in finding the paint color codes or to whom I can contact that may have them. Thanks, Bill
BK50, I had read in a book somewhere that the Carousel Red color was "test marketed" on the 68 Firebirds late in the model run. I recall that there were not a lot of them produced, making them quite rare. I know of another original Carousel Red 68 that is restored and located in Columbus, OH. You should not have any trouble finding this color as many 69 GTO "Judges" originally came in this color. This color is also known as "Hugger Orange" for a Chevy.........
I read an artical a few years back about on of those cars. It was a factory race car and still owned by the original owner. The car was in Calefornia. I am just going on memory but there was some mention of the paint code not being on this car and it may have been the Carousel Red. I will try to find this artical for you.
Thanks Guys... This car is VERY rare it has been in storage for many years and was painted black before I bought it.The original owner has pics of it from day one and it is forsure Carnival Red I have all the original parts to put it back to stock. I am the second owner and know the first owner very well. It is at the bodyshop as I speak waiting to find out forsure that the paint color I put on it is 100% correct. Like I said any help finding the paint mixing colors or codes would greatly be appreciated. Thanks Again...
OK BK50 I found the story and I hope helps. The article is in High Performance Pontiac April 1996. The story says there was as few as 13 made and the one in the story is the only one known to still exist at that time. It is owned by a racer named Jess Tyree. In the paint code area on the firewall tag there are three dashes and no numbers. The story goes on to tell about his effort to repaint it and searching for the proper paint. A person at Pontiac was able to furnish him with a paint code of "1". It is the Carousel Red. The cars were used as promotional cars. I am curious if yours has the three dashes on the firewall tag and is one of these cars. Let us know what you find.
