I inherited a diagnostic analyzer from my dad and want to use the tach function along with a vacume gauge to help me set the idle mixture on my Edelbrock carb.

Since I have a GM HEI, can I just hook the wire (red) from the analyzer to the connector marked "tach" on the HEI? The instructions say to hook it up to the neg. post on the coil. I know bad things can happen if I hook this up wrong. Thanks.

The "Tach" terminal on the HEI is the correct attachment point, equivalent to the coil negative terminal on a points coil.
