Is it difficult to replace the "drive pinion oil seal" or is there more to it? Lube on garage floor and well oil chassis now. And for removing companion flange nut, lefty loosy with compact wrench and big socket or that special tool?
Lefty loosey. Jack up the car. Use a long pipe on the breaker bar. Apply liberal amounts of PB blaster. Lower the car S-L-O-W-L-Y with the end of the pipe against the garage floor (on a block of wood works good to keep from marring that pretty concrete). If you are lucky enough to have two jacks, put the other one under the wood and jack the end of the pipe up after the car comes down. Repeat as required. Make sure that you've got the differential locked to keep it from turning. The e-brake will probably NOT hold it.
Thanks, Quenton. Sorry I must of been tired last night. Instead of "compact wrench", how about my impact wrench to remove. Also any torque spec for reinstall. Thanks
Birdword, One thing that I have been told in the past is to always use a new nut when putting things back together. You should be able to pick one up at a local pontiac dealer. If you dont use a new one I would at least use a little blue loc-tite to make sure it dont back off in the future. Also, when tightening back down dont over tighten (you dont want it to loose either), theres a certain preload that needs to be set on these bearings. Normally this preload is checked with a in. lb. torque wrench. Most sevice manuals will spell out the procedure to set the preload. If you want some good info do a search in team chevelle or team camaro for a guy that goes by big gear head. He's a nice guy and is willing to help, he knows a lot about rear ends, on cars anyway Nick

Thanks, Nick. I picked up a seal from NAPA today. Has that spring on inside. I'll look for "big gear head" and maybe post it on PY forum for any specs. Can't find any in chiltons, or other books i have. Dan
