I'm not sure if I should key the ignition to the door, like original, or as a stand alone key and have the doors, trunk, and glove box keyed alike. Originaly GM in 69 had the ignition and the door keys alike...which led to thieves taking your door lock, making a key, and coming back later with an ignition key and driving away. GM later altered this by keying the ignition as the square and the rest with the round key. Thoughts?? The car is a high dollar restification with many functional/performance/handling mods with almost no exterior styling changes, so strict ORIGINALITY isn't a concern. 2. The glove box lock is a Camaro unit which I think should be exactly the same however...when installing this where would I get the proper trim for the lock mechanism. In other word the non "wing nut" style lock ferrel? Is this something I can change? The Firebird is a simple flat round dress piece..If I'm not mistaken. Help if you can.

Where correct or not , I would not key doors as ignition...not that it matters much ,mine is a convertible....so locked doors or not, make little difference... Not sure how mine came from factory ( early 69 car), but when I bought it 2 yrs ago, door and igintion keys were not the same...doors are the same as the trunk (on mine) ,I later bought a glove box door w/ bird and key , so now I have 3 keys to the car...the glove box that came in my car had the key missing , and the door key did not fit...
Are 69 supposed to have a glove box bird. Mine didn't at any time since I bought it but it would be an interesting detail to add if it was an available option?

the glove box bird was an option , I "think" it was in combination w deluxe interior , but not 100%... My car was "restored" at one time and I think it received deluxe int. at that time..., in either case , my car , 69 convert. did not have the glove box bird ,but I added it...had a damaged glove box door and key missing, so I did it in one step, by buying the door w bird and key.. but glove box birds are availble repro if you want one as 'add-on'...just drill hole , it comes w stick on clip that attaches in the hole...it has a smaller pin on back also, a guide/stabilizer..so you`ll need two holes...
