I currently have my steering linkage apart. 69 firebird. Is the centerlink availabe from anywhere? Also I am having a difficult time telling which joints are good or bad. Some, like the inner tie rods are very free , while outers are stiff. right hand of center link will spin freely while left that attaches to gear box is stiff. Does this seem correct ? Oh and idler is very stiff. Thanks again
Ames Performance lists the 69 centerlink , V8 is P/N FS132K $150, 6cyl is FS132J $150. I don't know if they actually have them in stock. They are not in the RockAuto online catalog, so this might be a specialty item made by Rare Parts, Inc.
i am out of center links but i have new inner and outer tie rod ends in stock along with new idler arms.you need to have your steering linkage togethed to see what has excessive ply.i usually change the complete steering rack if i find one worn out part.
Thanks Drew and firebird man I may be contacting you. But while still evaluating my linkage, Is there a certain amount of tension that should be on the idler arm. I mean how tight should this thing be. Any help appriciated. Thanks again.
as afar as tension goes, there shouldnt be an wear in the part. if it's excessively loose, you should think of replacing it. even if its just for peace of mind.
