Hi, I just purchased a very well restored 68 Bird. This is the second one I have owned....the first one was purchased new in 1969. I guess once you owned one you have a tendancy to want another. This one's special as we were married in 1968 as well.

I know when I get into tinkering with this Bird I will have questions for the experts among you. This forum looks like a pretty good source of information.
BTW, my new Bird is a 68 Cameo Coupe with a 400cc 4 speed. The car was originally a Sprint.

Actually, there is one question I have right now. As I said, the car was originally a Sprint and it still has the holes for the Sprint embloms in the hood. I really don't want to replace the Sprint embloms so I was wondering if there are any other embloms I could find that used the same holes, or at least covered up the ones there?

Rich

Welcome, Rich!!

Those emblems were very long, so I doubt any emblems, but the original ones will fit.

you can buy a 400 fairly cheaply. on ebay there $365.00. for that price you can have it painted with the spare change you save.

Welcome to the site Rich.....the only thing you could do without changing the hood is either put the sprint ones in or re-drill/jig for the 400 emblems and patch in the other holes, which will show unless you repaint the hood of course or do a little artistic touch up!

Does anybody know where to buy the Sprint emblems?? The rest of my car is very stock looking so going back to the original Sprint ones would make it a real sleeper with the 400/4 under the hood....that is until they here the rumble.

Hoy hoy Rich,

since your engine has been upgraded, upgrade your hood. There's mixed opinions about the repo 400 hood. Now and then, a worth while original will pop up on eBay.

The 4.1 Liter OHC-6 hood badge can be purchased through Ames. http://www.amesperf.com/ Part # FD104K, $79.00/pr. The only thing about this reproduction is it comes in two pieces. the original was one piece. I can attest the quality is spot on, and once put on the hood you can't tell it's two pieces.

Welcome to the site. This is the best place to get info on the First Gen birds (and other vehicles too from time to time).
