My parents are from Northern Germany and growing up there were boiled potatos every day. After college and going off on my own, it was nice to cook and experience a side that wasn't a potato. But now I find myself making them more and more.

Growing up in Sweden, I`m a meat and potato guy (WITH gravy!) I like potatoes in many forms...my ex once gave me a small potato cookbook, 200 potato recepies! If you like cooking ,try "Hasselback potatos" I`ll see if theres a recipe online if not I`ll make one found them , LOTS of recipes... heres one http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hasselback-Potatoes/Detail.aspx but I never add the parmesan or bread crumbs to mine, just the plain butter ,brush it on evety 5-10 minutes so it slides down into the cuts...I never turn them either , just top side up...my kids LOVE these!
and cook at 425 in oven for 45 minutes!just plain and with butter is the best...adding all the other stuff doesnt really "add" anything, just losing the potato taste!

Oh Yes! When "MountainKing " potatoes came to Houston 15 yrs ago ,they had a recipe contest on the radio.."send in your best potato recipe"...I did, the " janssons temptation " recipe...I got called in ,being one of the five finalists to bring dish to the radio station....me and 4 women...I cooked mine night before , brought in a cold dish with foil on it...the other 4 contestsnt sat there with warmers etc...talking to ea other, about being up all night etc... guy comes in says " 5 minutes to show time"...I ask "do you have a microwave? I need to heat them up"
ladies snicker "he`s going to heat them up in a microwave!" LOL
Guess who won!?! I gottwo days hotel stay on the River in San Antonio! and several bags of Mountain King potatos!

and this recipe is pretty close my my winning one... just use anchovie fillets in OIL, and pour that over the dish as you put the anchiovies in... and let me tell you, I dont LIKE anchovies, but in this dish its great!cook for 40-45 minutes at 425F!

And the funny thing, if you are in a hurry, finish them up in the microwave. They always seem to take a long time to get done. I have to try out those, 'award winning' potatos too. Looks like a winner from the recipe.

yes, and you probably know that apple seeds also are poisonous...but being so small, you need a large amount to take effect, "normally if you eat some you only get stomach ache ,but a large quntity to actually kill....if I remember right , its cyanide in them?

Bella Donna = spanish for Beautiful Woman...was also used in Spain to drop into Womens eyes,it dilates the pupils , so "they look good", unfortunately they dont see so well...lol

Real butter for the taters. And gravy from the fat drippings.
There's nothing like full fat, high calories for taste. Real butter, not the yellowish/white stuff in a plastic tub and gravy from the fat drippings (all natural-no chemicals)
I like boiled taters with butter and fresh parsley, and a big fat NY strip. (med-rare)

How can the one guy say that beans are in the meat group. Last time I checked, vegans use soybeans!!! If they were grouped into meats those poor people would starve.
