When I press the horn all I here is a click under the hood. I believe its coming from the relay on the firewall. Could this be the sign of a bad relay? Thanks,
The click is the relay. Sounds like the horn its self has frozen up. There was a thread on getting them to work again. I think Terry shoots'em full of Blaster, then raps them with a hammer. I haven't tried that yet.
sometimes the horn relay is the culpret.i have taken them apart and cleaned the inside of them than adjusted the contacts inside and the horn would work after that.9 out of 10 of them i have been able to repair
Unplug the lead from the horn and use a tester to see it you've got power at the horn (with the horn button pushed) before you start messing with the horn. As Terry is saying, the relay could be clicking but not closing the contacts.
Cleaned my share of contacts over the years. Like everyone that sat for years.
The horn gounds to the core support. On my last bird, only one worked. Turned out the other was rusty where it bolted to the support, which was also rusty. Cleaned and painted them, then moved the horn back and forth just enough to get a bare spot. Works like new.
Bty, i dont like the tone on mine. What do do guys use? A & F, or what?
The relay is good, I have 12 volts at the lead. Both horns have been soaking in PB Blaster all night but I haven't had time to try them today. My charger has a 12 volt 125 amp start mode. Is that what I need to use to test them?
