Rember when Mustang and camaro first came out the bigest engine you could get was a 350 Chevy 289 Ford.(64-1/2 -- 67)This was pony car. Then Pontiac Firebird came out with firebird 400 so chevy started ofering 396 and ford 390.With these motors they were muscle cars.

You guys are all bought out by a 40-year old bogus line. The term Pony was thought up by Ford geeks to create a class they thought they could control. Just like the horse itself.
Goobers and geeks allowed the phrase and the thought-process to gain ground and eventually become a market standard.
My 68 bird is not in the pony class or category, and it never was. Okay, I can see the Cougar being thrown in there, but not my monster Firebird.
I am not going down on this non-industry-standard bullcrap category, originated by Ford.
AND the Mustang was actually NOT named after the horse, it was to be named after the Mustang airplane!! Fords marketing dept screwed it up and came out with a horse! So plane= birds! Birds it is! pony style birds...lol

We spent an hour or so today at the regular Saturday evening Sonic Car hop. There were a few dozen mustangs and foreign rockets, and one Chevelle and our bird.
EVERYONE looking at the cars hung around our bird and the Chevelle. Nobody cared about the other cars.
