Installed the long branch manifold this weekend. After checking the adapter gasket to block (perfect) I checked the gasket to the RARE adapter.
Not exactly a perfect fit. This would restrict oil flow quite a bit.

Opening it up is a good idea.
But oil will be hitting the block where the gasket covers the hole.
May cause turbulance.
I'd find a better casting.

To get my adaptor to seal I had to go to a slightly softer gasket material.

Cheers,

Depends on which way the oil flows through that port.

I think oil is flowing diagonally, and the hole is the same. Trim the gasket, but what I did was like Smitty did.

Use a better material. The material they provide is for [censored]. You can buy stuff by the roll at the auto parts stores. Just make sure it's for oil applications. and cut out your profile.

Believe me, the material they provide is really bad. I had to redo it with the better material, and a tip from a pro... skim coat the gasket material and let it stand until the outer surface is dry. This will give you a soft sealing surface and a better seal. It will also help keep things in place as your trying to put it back together.

Good luck.

Also beware of the bolts being too long and bottoming out. I had that problem with the Ames one and it leaked until I added washers.

RARE says mine's defective and is sending me a new one.
We'll see.
