OK gang, who has experience with the Vintage Air - Sure Fit kit for a FGF? I am heavily considering this as my large ticket item for the winter [1 every year] and was wondering: 1. What peoples experiences are with this kit - Pros / Cons, how is their tech support, how is the kit [does it require mods at all], etc...? 2. If this is something that I could tackle or if it would be best to let a professional do it?
As an Electrical Engineer I am not worried about the electrical side of the job but I am a bit concerned on the mechanical/AC side as I dont have a lot of experience in this field. I have an above average mechanical aptitude but I have never worked with AC before so I dont know all the in's and outs. I read the installation manual and it doesnt seem to be that complex. What it does seem is a Pain in the @ss to put in becuase of the space you have to work in/nature of the work. Any toughts or tips would be great. My #1 fear is to buy everything, start into and realize that I bit off way more than I can chew. Then have to had a 1/2 finished job over to somone to finish and then watch the price skyrocket because its always harder to finish someone elses work than your own.
If you want my opinion, which many don't.I would send it to a professional; but you may want to check with some of the novices first. They seem to know more than I do.
My friend Stacy did it on his 69....the main thing is that you need to take front passenger fender off...at least the inner... dash is a pain on 69`s...but he did it himself...he had never done one before...
its about $1000 to buy ,another $900-1000 to have installed....works great..

Terry, I value always value your opinion even if I dont agree at times. I dont need to tell you this as I am sure you know, but your a very valuable member on this board amongst others.
I would love to save the money and have the satisfaction/experience & subsequent knowledge of doing it myself, however, if its not something that a novice, or slightly above Novice [as I consider myself - open for debate, just not here - start another thread if anyone wants to debate that :)] can tackle then so be it and it goes off to the pros. The only issue is that it becomes a considerably more expensive project than originally thought. I however, do want it done right, and right the first time. Whether or not I do it or someone else, thats not negotiable.

Thats what I understood too. Aside from being a pain in the @ss to deal with the fender/dash, was there anything to it that offered a challenge?

I'd listen to you in a heartbeat Terry. In my eyes, having the occasional difference of opinion doesn't make you less of a Firebird nut or any less respected by any stretch of the imagination. It just adds additional perspective and that is always a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
Say hello to my leetle friend..Presenting the "FIRETOAD"
