Have 1969 350HO CV. The engine #s match and seems to have never been out of the car. The engine color is blue like the 2 gen. cars and not the silver blue color. Is that correct ?
Thank You ! I've been stumped because the car is so original. I bought it with 89k miles on it and the intake is showing some paint loss along with the exhaust manifolds. If repainted it was done many years ago and done completely because there is no silver blue evident below the blue now on the motor. i just want to be shure before detailing the engine compartment .
You can let the repro shysters sell their $15 a can to someone else: I picked up the correct color at a large independant parts dealer (Salvos) for $4.99 a can. Although he only had one can on the shelf, he checked his supplier and can get tractor trailer loads of the stuff.
The brand is Duplicolor--says something about ceramic on the can. I cannot attest to the in-use durability, but in a couple of hours, the stuff is hard as nails.
Duplicolor: DE1616 Ceramic engine paint. Says it's good to 500 Degrees. I just sprayed my engine. (block, intake, valve covers and a few misc parts. I used almost two cans.) I thought the stuff looked a little dull so I bought some high heat clear coat. Duplicolor makes a ceramic clear coat, but I couldn't find it. My clear coat is made by "plasticoat" rated to 500 degrees. I sprayed the whole engine. It really looks nice now. Hopefully it will hold up. I'll let you guys know. I am in the process of putting the motor back in as we speak.
when you paint heads ,exhaust ports areas,, use as thin a coat as possible, the thicker it is the sooner it burns /changes color...almost NO paint will hold up at exhaust ports...will first get yellowish ,then brown ,then burn off...

So back to the cellar I go.
THAT IS THE SAME STUFF I USED ON MY 69 AND MY BUDDY USES ON HIS 69 TRANS AM
Does anyone know of a Company that will color match engine paint? (i.e. mix engine paint to match Midnight Green?) There are local companies that have the Dupont color match system, but they do not mix this in high heat paint.
