Sorry if this has been covered before; I looked in the FAQs but couldn't find the info I need.
I need subframe connectors for my 67 convertible (a lotta motor + posi spells trouble). I know the weld-in ones are better, but I don't have the skills or tools to cut them to fit my convert and then weld them in. Therefore, I'm wondering if anybody makes bolt-in connectors that will fit a convertible without modification?
Most companies don't make subframe connectors specifically for convertibles because they use a factory cross brace. The cross brace works to add support to the undercarriage in lou of subframe connectors. It's my understanding, though that the bolt in connectors can be used without modification if you remove the x-brace. You can get the bolt in style on e-bay, from Jegs, or Summit Racing.
Drew, almost... you have most of the info, but the verts actually have the X pan brace and they have support bracing that comes out from the center of the car to the outside edges of the floor pan, directly in the way of the subframe connectors.
I've heard some talk that a couple companies may or may not offer a vert SFC, but haven't followed up on that yet.
What I did is build my own with the main tube being 2"x2" (instead of the 1"x1") and 1/8" thick and notched this section out where this brace protrudes. You could get a set of coupe SFC's and mark out the area needed to be notched, and then take them to a shop, have them cut out the notch (or you could do so with a hack-saw) and then have them box and weld the notched out area.
This was going to be my second choice... but the ones I built are pretty stout! I could send you some pictures of them if you like or need?

i think globalwest makes SFC's for the vert. they are tubular, and hang down a bit from the floor pan.
i believe they are s'posed to be welded to the rear, but have heard of people bolting them in. perhaps they just drilled holes and put bolts in, or maybe had to make little brackets first to do that.
you can rent a mig welder. migs are pretty easy if you practice a little on scrap metal. or you can get it all ready, and take it to your local muffler shop and see if they will weld in the rear section. i used to weld all kinds of stuff for people when i worked at a muff. shop. we didn't charge much for welds like they do at a welding shop, of course, we didn't grind down the welds afterwards either to make them look pretty.
do a search on the suspension part of the camarotech forum, and you'll get all kinds of info, and some pics, of SFC's that work just the same on our birds
