I saw one at a car show. The universal joints from the rack steering shaft jockeyed around some pretty severe angles to get the rack input connected up with the steering shaft. I don't know how much of the rack and pinion feel was lost to this extra coupling stuff. Getting the sterring gear on the correct level to minimize bump steer might be worth it.
I would suggest seeing one and trying it in person before spending up. There's lots of steering universals in my Crown vic and a lot of backlash and road feel is lost in that sequence of parts.
Baer used to make dropped tie rod ends for adjusting out the bump steer in the bird from incorrect steering box location. Are there still avalailable? Has anyone installed them to report on results?
