Anyone have a rough or exact measurement on how heavy just the body itself weights (no subframe, no doors, nothing...)? Ive looked all over the internet and I cant find a thing. I looked at the new repro camaro bodies and couldnt find a number to give me an idea on what just the body weighs. Coupe or convertible, it doesnt matter.
I asked a while back and I receive comments that the bare coupe body weights in at around 650 #. I think that estimate might be light, but not off my much. This is with rear axle dropped, no front clip, no glass, no doors, and no interior.
I have mine on the rotisserie that bonecrusher67 designed and it's holding up fine no-strain. It's readily rolled into or out of the garage without help. It's readily spinned around into any position for repairs, also without help.
The engine on the Harbor Freight Stand is harder to move around because of the tiny iron wheels.
I don't think the 650 pound estimate is light at all. I think it's heavy. I've loaded them on a trailer by hand with just one person helping me. No way we were each lifting 350 pounds. Of course it depends on how 'stripped' they are.
I'm with Jim, 650 is heavy. When I picked up my 68 from the body shop four of us lifted it straight up then walked along side the trailer and set it down and it was attached to a steel cart which added more weight. I later sold the body and I help the new owner lift the front up on the trailer then we picked up the back and slid it forward.
I second Jim and Kerry. I bought a body out in New Mexico a few years ago and myself and two others loaded it on the back of the pickup truck on the top of the bed rails. It was heavy not too much. I would estimate 400 lbs.
the complete shell with no windsheild , doors mounted with window inside weighs right around 800#'s. i can lift the back half of the car myself and i can lift 400#'s. the mid lift point of the body is just forward of the rear wheel wells. about an inch or so to the rear of the spring eye center bracket mounts. would be the center of gravity for a stripped out car!!! my car has the column and all dash components still installed though which makes it weigh slightly more!!
