Have any ideas? I'm getting a dim alt. light at the dash and poor charging to the system. The alt and voltage reg. are new and test good. All charging system wires have been checked and ohmed out. The contacts at the horn relay are clean and tight. When running I'm getting only about 12.7 volts. Do not know where to go from here.
I had similar problems with my previous bird, a '68 convertible. The problem was the wire that taps off the battery that eventually powers all accessories and charging system. The wire was bad so I replaced it. Didn't completely fix the problem. The wire comes off the battery and goes to a connector on the passenger side firewall. My connector was badly corroded. I thoroughly cleaned the connector and then everything was fine. 99% of my electrical problems were due to oxodized, dirty or painted electrical connections.
68zippy check out the web site I posted in my first reply they show you how to wire the alt to sence the voltage in a better location than factory. then the alt will charge better. I would install a volt meter so you know for sure what the alt and batt are doing. volt meter is far better than an amp guage and easier to install. Also check the voltage with a volt meter at the battery and at the back of the alt it should only be about 1/2-1 volt difference. With the lights on bright and hearter blower motor on high the voltage at the batt should be 13.8 - 14.8
Checked out the madelec web site and lots of good info. Still have low voltage output through the system. Some where there is a little voltage sucking gremlin that won't play fair. I'm about ready to rip out the whole wiring harness and start over with a painless (@ that price it's not painless)harness.
