Those things in the distance in the trees are Misletoe. But I do have some large squirrel nest on the other side. The cat is scared of the big ones. Sized more like big Rabbits than squirrels.
My wife is from Michigan, she was excited to see it snow again.

We got stuck in Atlanta due to the "blizzard of '93" I believe it was. We were there for a Winston cup race. By midwest standards it wouldn't have been too bad, but they understandibly aren't equipped for that kind of thing. Didn't get to see the race, but was darned glad we finally made it home!
10 degrees this morning here in Amarillo but dry ground and pavements. Saw a frozen waterwall outside a fast food joint this morning.

Thats cold for them thar parts! 38F or so here today which is below seasonal, but expect about 25F by this sunday for a few days. With the humididy here that makes it feel Brrrrr
Yep. That was the lowest I've seen in my 2 years here.
Last year I was in a neighbor's jacuzzi with the outside temp at 17 degrees. The steam would rise up and freeze on your hair. I thought it was cool, my wife (who stayed home) thought I was nuts.

check these records again...I`ve been checking now for 2,3 months , and Houstons records for warm has mostly been between 1948 and 1952....there must have been an "undetected" global warming then... ...and thats probably why they thought it was "ice age coming" in the 70`s...
Global warming.... I saw a new show on the Discovery Channel about how fast the glaciers are melting. Way faster than they ever dreamed possible. Heck, we might even see some results locally in 100 years. I myself can't wait that long! It's gonna cost a bundle to heat the barn next week.
Supposed to have zero tems here and wind chills -15 to -20 this weekend. Been reading some articles this week that show the polar icecap is again expanding and ice has returned to much of the areas north. I guess glowbull warming was cancelled.

Holy Crow! How can these scientists put out a TV show and articles the same week with opposite results. These scientists that I saw on the Discovery Channel were actually crying about how much ice is being lost every day..... I just don't understand all the conflicting info... They had pictures/videos and believeable results. I smell propaganda...It would be interesting to see who is lying...Discovery Channel or the article writers.
It is winter in the Northern Hemisphere you know The ice cap retreating is an average. I don't see it receeding this time of year. The Antartic cap is though.
In a few hundred years I may have beach front property, or at least the drive will be a few hours shorter

Yah! It was the Antartic they were talking about. And I'm a half a mile from the beach. If I dig down 6 feet in my front yard I hit sea shells so it was a beach at one time. I'm game but what about the thousands of my neighbors in between? Oh well, not going to see it anyway...
when I was in school...(50`s)I guess the scientists wre so dumb....they actually said land was rising...and in 150-200 years we (Swedes) would be able to walk across to Finland....LOL
Now they say its going to be sea bottom (as it already is...has been since the ice from the ice age retreated from that land, thank God for warming...otherwise there wouldnt be a Scandinavia...all isnt bad...it IS an evolving planet ,things never stay the same...

I had to look a while to find the articles again. I read a lot over on Free Republic, where articles referenced, linked and then debated (conservative slant in the discussion).
Note that this is real recent stuff. I doubt either is lying but both may be spinning. Which leads me to believe that GW is more about politics then science.
Current Artic Sea Ice Extent Excerpt: As of January 1, 2008 Environment Canada analysis indicates sea ice cover over the Northern Hemisphere has recovered to near normal extent. However, much of the thick multi-year ice in the eastern and even central Arctic Ocean has been depleted and replaced with thinner more newly formed first year ice
Excerpt: On Disko Bay in western Greenland, where a number of prominent world leaders have visited in recent years to get a first-hand impression of climate change, temperatures have dropped so drastically that the water has frozen over for the first time in a decade. “The ice is up to 50cm thick,” said Henrik Matthiesen, an employee at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute who has also sailed the Greenlandic coastline for the Royal Arctic Line. ‘We’ve had loads of northerly winds since Christmas which has made the area miserably cold.’ Matthiesen suggested the cold weather marked a return to the frigid temperatures common a decade ago.
So the new ice is thinner first year ice... Maybe a new trend? One thing I can't help think about is how does anyone, scientist or laymen, know if any of these 'trends' are really bad for the Earth as a whole? Heck, this retreating of the ice might be a great thing for the Earth. Maybe it's 'saving' the Earth for all we know. It could be just as likely that if we could stop the ice packs from melting then we would be hurting a natural cycle. We should concentrate on slowing the poluting of the Earth. There is no doubt that it is a bad thing.... I know we could use some better filters on the coal fired smoke stacks around my area. If they could do that there would be much cleaner air and way less fine particulate polution.
cleaner air is better, less pollution is better, less ice is better for the ships that sail those area...lol
cleaning up the air we breathe is a good thing, less noise pollutuion is a good thing, less cr&p on the ground is a good thing...falsely mislead people to think the sky is falling (so some people can make money on it) is a bad thing.....I`ve said all along that the SUN has ahuge impact on our warming /cooling...I will continue to think so....you can tell by just standing in the sun ,and let it disappear in a cloud! it is not taking a ph. d. to figure that out ,and we KNOW the sun changes its output...35-40 yr cycles
To add to that... When the ice caps recede they reveal more land and water surface. The sun uses these surfaces to heat the Earth much more so than the whiteness of ice and snow. And then you have the effect of polution in the atmosphere that blocks out the sun. Then to counter that you have the greenhouse effect of the polution that traps the heat. It seems there are two sides to every factor. Which leaves people with agendas to use and stilt the facts....
and Il`l show this again...the amounts of hurricanes, if you remember 2006 was going to be a record year b/c of the GW...then "we miscalculated", and 2007 was going to be the record year....look at them , 1969 was...and 2005 about 35-40 yrs apart...kinda like the solar cycles, interesting...
Total hurricanes as of given dates, and compared to normal. ouch that paste of the chart didnt work..
haha, I esp. like the lines: "Global warming causes snow storms. And hemorrhoids. " and "Anyway, with the Great Credit Crisis of 2008 and the following depression, this protest will seem so 2007 in just a year."
Looks like Ohio to. We are going down to single digit temperatures this weekend. That's when ya say brrrr!
Funny...
Hot tub has been off for the past few weeks..Should not be, but was. Anyhow, last night, 15 degrees, wind howling, I went to breaker outside to fire her up to prevent any pump or line damage. I threw the breaker 5 times before she fired (dumb to repeat breaker tripping)
I thought I heard her say "F you, too cold".
It was bad last night, and I ain't no wuss.

I keep mine running year round Amervo, even in 5F weather, which is about the coldest we have here. Figure generally it takes less energy to keep it running than heat it back up anyhow. You probably had the water starting to freeze in your pump...
They should never have landed on the moon! At least they should have alternated between this side and the far side so they didn't mess up the delicate balance and jar the moon out of its orbit!
Russians are bracing for temperatures of as low as minus 55 degrees Celsius (minus 67 degrees Fahrenheit) in Siberia as Russia's emergencies ministry warns on Wednesday of its impending dangers in the coming weeks.
