I am happy to see all the "reasonable" prices the last couple of nights at BJ
Until I saw the Avocado Gold Mustang Boss 302 last night go for $105 K. I always have the sound off (with those idiot commentators) so what the heck was so special about that one?
2012 Mustang Boss 302 #1918, Competition Orange. FGF replacement 2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered. 2019 BMW X3 (Titled to the wife, but I'm always driving it for her. So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
I didn't think it was to bad last night since Mike Joy wasn't on. He's the one that gets on my nerves.
Other pet peeve is any car that isn't original they feel the need to comment on what it would take to get it back to original. Sorry guys, but all originals are not worth more than modified, at least that what Mike Joy implies. Some are for sure but not all. Mike seems to think a base car that's been modified shouldn't be there to begin with and any modified V8 should be put back original. This isn't a car show, it's an auction. I know they may just trying to talk up a cars value if this and that were done, but it gets very old very quick listening to it over and over. Having the sound off might be a good idea.
But yeah, a few deals actually went through so far. Some sellers were probably pissed.

I forgot about that. Before I hit "Mute" I heard the idiots talking about that a car "just needs minor stuff to get back to original" referring to the aftermarket intake manifold and carb.
The one they were talking about had a TRANSPLANTED (not numbers matching) engine. Morons.
Bjorn: But still the Boss was missing 2 highly desirable options like the shaker hood scoop and window slats.

That 302 Boss was a give-away. Restored clone with chinese parts make up 99.9% of all cars of that era. Origional paint in that condition? You cannot buy this; instead, you must find it, and it's a one in a lifetime opportunity, the reason I was shocked that they gave it away. They didn't have the right crowd.
The ones I liked was the dodge van with something like 16k on the clock, a work truck, and the Brittish car, the Metro or whatever it was. The dodge van had a code plate down on the sill, with "idiot" showing his total lack of mechanical aptitude. He mentioned about the scruffs on the plate. The problem is that it takes at least 100,000 to 200,000 + 16k to bark up the plate like that.
Idiot did just as well with the metro, or whatever brittish car, with 30 whatver miles and all original: It had a pair of hokey looking carbs on the side. The problem is that they didn't have breathers because they wouldn't clear the hood. Excuse me? This is factory? I worked on lots of Brittish cars, and there is some mickey mouse stuff on them--I could make a list, but I'm getting ready to tearass from work. The issue is that brittions are very fussy about mechanical design, and there is no way in hell that they would have designed the car and not allowed room for air breathers.
The best one was last night when Idiot was rolling around on a red buick ragtop. If I were an offical, I would have screamed out "who t/f do you think you are? Get your @$$ of that car!" And I would have booted hisass out of there so quick his head would have been spining.
An expert rolling around on the top of a fender? Incredible!
I guess I side with those guys for the most part. I like and appreciate oringinality over mods any day. I also beleive and feel that the more original and or correct a car is, the more it's worth. When I see a muscle car that has after market rims, aftermarket gauges screwed under the dash etc. it makes me nuts.
Now in saying that, I don't intend to offend anyone here as I know several of you are into that and have done so on your cars and that is fine, it's you car. I'm just saying from my point of view I agree with the guys on B-J when it comes to original vs. aftermarket/custom etc.
Wheels are one of those things that have to appeal to your specific 'eye'. You know what you like and should put them on your car. If you are lucky, many others will like your wheels. If not, at least you are happy with the look. I just bought some Cragar SS's. Just because I like them. I'm sure there are a LOT of people out there that dislike them. Just like there are many that do not like the 'big wheels'.
I have a very good friend who has a 66 GTO that is absolutely perfect in EVERY way but he has these stupid aweful looking rims from the 70s (aftermarket) instead of the correct Rally Is and he gets ticked everytime he shows the car and people make comments about the rims. In fact he seldom wins anyting due to the rims but yet he loves them. Oh well, to each his own...
It's a fine line to reach just the right balance when plus sizing wheels and tires. Yes, it's more personal taste, but too small or too busy and you miss by a long shot, too big and too awkward looking and you miss... it has to have a good balance of wheel and tire, and it has to compliment the cars features and character.
But they can make the largest impact on how the car looks (other than paint) the biggest bang for the buck appearance wise...
I had brand new Craiger SS wheels on my 68 back in the 80s' Jim, there was nothing like fresh chrome I tell ya... I don't think I would go that route today with so many choices out there now... but than again I don;t think I could decide on one set anyway
i agree with bj on the original thing.they are worth more original.i would not want a highly modified classic car unless i got it cheap enough to part out and make money

You wouldn't have to part out the altered car if it's done right. People pay big money for them all together. And I like to think about it like this; Say you've been fed spaghetti for a good portion of your life.(spaghetti=altered cars). Then you get a taste and ability to afford steak.(steak=numbers correct/unaltered cars). You eat just steak for years.... You will eventually want some spaghetti again. And if the spaghetti is good enough, you may want it a lot. But the big question is: What is chicken?
