I need to replace the pins in my door upper hinges on a 67 firebird Any advice on how to get the old pin out and the new one in. Specifically, the pin looks like it installs from the bottom. What keeps the pin from falling out. The old one looks like it was staked or something. And how about the brass bushings. Are they hard to get in and out. Any advice would be appreciated. Can the pins be replaced without removing the hinges? Thanks.............
When I rebuilt the hinges on my 69, I had to cut the old ones using a grinder (a hacksaw might do, but they're pretty hard). The new ones on mine went in from the top. Brass bushings are easy to remove and install.
Here's some questions and answers from when I asked similar questions last year: (I recall hearing that there are some differences between '67 and '68-'69 hinges.)
FYI, there's a good hinge rebuild article in an on-line mag (Chevy Punch) over on the Camaro site. Look for the March 2007 issue at: http://www.chevypunch.com/issues/
