Saw this Bird on the way in this morning. First FGF I've seen in this area in years, and the only vert I've seen besides mine in 20 years. I got the guys attention nicely, a guy about my age, I pulled in behind and followed at a safe distance, he pulled in to a store lot and ran in to get something, I parked and got out of my truck to meet him, he jumped in and drove off waving. WTF??? It's not like I was dressed like a bum and driving for a car jacking, he knew I wanted to meet, I was alone, we were in a gorcery store lot. I was hoping to get some better pics and talk a bit. VERY NICE CAR!
I think I know about where he works, I might try and find him at lunch, but he just ticked me off a bit after that.
But it was nice to see the car on the road on a Friday morning.

Wanting a Custom fit in an off the rack world.

Probably just late for work.... Maybe his 'regular ride' wouldn't start and he had to take the old car to work. That would explain the rush.... Or he is used to stalkers asking about his 'Camaro'.
guy was probably in a hurry ,plus thought "another guy who likes my ride"... IF I were You I would have 1) put a bus card with my name number ,a quick note on it ,on the W/S, have done a few times... 2)waited for him by his car....so you could say "hey , i`ve got one like it"... but its exciting isnt it?? I thought 7 yrs ago, I was the only one in town with a bird.....but now we have "collected" 30 or more in our local group!
Bjorn, that's what I was trying to do. I grabbed a piece of paper, scribbled my name and number as fast as I could, got out to walk over and he looks my way as he's getting back in, I wave the paper and motion that I want him to stop. He just drives by waving.
I figure he thought just someone else wanting to buy his car so he'd avoid the whole situation. I'd like to have seen his face when I said, "Nah man, I've already got three" because I know he hasn't seen any around either.
I know they're are some around, so when I see one I try to make contact. I'd like to try the HALF thing around here. I know of one other coupe, haven't seen it but I know who the owner is.

first ,while trying to sell my Sebring (Healey Fiberglass replica w 302) I was signing up on here, andstarted looking for a Firebird...amongst others I found this neat car in Atlanta area , owned by Al Yeltin , the car is still in the online show under his name!, he was selling...I contacted him and he was interested in a possible trade...we were to drive +_ halfway and swap cars...we had agreed on an even swap, based on our pics, just needed to see in person...so Halletsville , Mo, was our target, since both cars were vertts we also wanted a good weekend...three bad ones, rain...the n he had to go out of town...next we had one set up...tuesday I talk to him, were on for saturday!.... Thursday comes ,he calls :" I sold the car"!
WTH? "Yes ,got offered cash ,took it"..
2-3 years go by...I have my Firebird bought from Dallas, HALF is started up...
one day I drive my 'driver' to a client meet on the west side of town...at an intersection I see a red Firebird convertible...I pass by...look at my watch, yes I have time!, turn around...now he has gotten green is cruising down the other road...I weave in and out ,eventually catch up...motion to him , he looks confused...lol..finally I get him to stop... we go out and I say something to the effect ;" Hey , I ve got one like that, and we have a group of guys.....etc"
I look all over his car...he explains about it..he opens the hood...and I go:" Hey ,did you buy this from Al Yelton"?
"yes"..
"Hey , you got MY CAR!" lol
Small world , he bought that car from under me up in Atlanta...who would know that car would end up a few miles from me... he later came to one of our HALF meets...but, eventually decided to sell it...so the car is gone again.. I`ll look thru my pics ,see if I have one of it...
Probably told this story before. I bought my first one in 1976, that I still have, at 16. I'd been looking for about a year. My buddy was driving as we cruised the local lots. I spot a green one. I get out and look it over. I don't like it. Green inside and out, plus automatic. As we leave the lot he starts to back out, I tell him to pull ahead and he can pull a U in the next lot. When we turn the car around his headlights are shining straight at a Cameo White 68 in the back corner of the same lot, we never even saw it while looking at the other. Next day I'm there buying it.
The Vert I saw in the paper around 1984-5, the guy had two, a 400 4 speed deluxe interior vert, and an OHC 6 3 speed. He wanted way more than I had for the 400 and wouldn't sell the 6 without selling the 400 first. He said the 6 would be a good "parts" car. I offered him $4000 for both and he took it. I only had $1000 bucks to my name and couldn't afford a loan. I hit the phones calling all my contacts, finally found a buyer for the 400 for 3 grand so I got the 6 for a grand.
Fast forward to last summer at a local cruise in, a guy checks out my Vert and asked where I bought it. Turns out he's the guy I found to buy the 400 car, he still has it but doesn't live in the area anymore.
Your right, small world sometimes.

Rocket launchers? Could be, I'd like some at times.
The shop that did my body work had this car in at the same time. Black Beauty from the Green Hornet. The flaps under the lights are the rocket launchers.

HO, the guy probably didn't want or have time to get into another discussion about how "I used to have one just like this, except it was a different color and a different year and it was a GTO. And how much would you sell it for?". Alot of times there is no way to make it short without being rude. Sometimes I don't even want to go in the store after somebody is still standing there looking when I walk away.
The one thing I'd like to do is steer any and all FGF owners to this site. It's the one commonality.
Geoff, how difficult would it be to print some businees cards with the logo and site address? A box of 1000 cards isn't that expensive. We could write our names and contact info on the back. When we see a FGF we could give it to them leave it on the guys car.
When we buy a Calender, shirt or whatever, through a dozen in for us to give out.

we , in HALF did this a couple of Years ago...Brett helped us with logo and printing...we (all in HALF) have a small stack of these cards that we hand out/stick on windshields...with some space to write on the back...its a bus. card size....
yeah , I never even saw those before...guess I`m not as detail oriented (should be , I`m used to check drwgs!)..I have no idea...and I went back and found pics Al sent me when we were negotiating... they are there too....
too bad ,this was a nice car...original paint...not orig 400 car , but hood has orig paint too, from a 400 car in same color! was a 326 orig, but nicely done...not 'correct' ,but I wanted this one...too bad I didnt have the money when it sold from the guy here!
the girl in the ad is "just wishful thinking" ! lol

Hey, could have not waved at all, or waved something else at you.
68 valance on 67 car and fenders? maybe he bought it since it was matching and original paint? Al claimed all on this car was "original paint"...and then mounted the 67 parking/turn signals the 67 way?
