hi guys, i have a 69 400 with a saginaw 4 speed in it. the problem is that the shifter hits the console in 2&4. i have collected the original shifter and stick. i bought a new shifter mount and it is way off. the car came with a console originaly but was not there when i got it. did the 69 come with a saginaw? does anyone make the parts to make this work? or do i need to buy a muncie and new shift rods? i'm lost!! thanks fo your help
I've had that problem but not with the Saginaw. When I had it, it was because I had the wrong shifter(with Muncie). Got the right shifter and put the console in the right place and it was fixed. The 69 only came with the m20 and the m21 Muncies. If the 'throw' on the Saginaw is different then the correct console shifter wouldn't work. I haven't seen any shifter offered for the Saginaw that works with the console.
The Sprint was offered with a Saginaw (as the optional 4-speed), and many also came with a console. I haven't seen the factory Saginaw shifter for the Sprint. On the OHC board are several guys who have, and I am sure that more than one probably has a shifter. Gary Patrick (in florida) is parting out a '69 Sprint with a 4-speed. The trans is in pieces, but he may still have the shifter.
I stand corrected on the 69 Saginaw with the sprint. I used the option list as a source for my comment. It only showed the m20 and m21 as options in 69. My book is in error.

No really. M20 is the functional designation for a 4 speed trans (standard ratios). It doesn't indicate which trans. The build configuration would determine in an M20 would be a Saginaw or a Muncie.
Good point and I can verify it by my original 2nd generation 4 speed car. The M21 designation for that car is a Borg Warner T-10 transmission. What I didn't realized was the Saginaw transmission had a similar occurance. It must be considered an M20. Which makes perfect sense because the 'M' designation was specifically for gearing, not manufacturer.
