I have a 68 400 convert. non numbers but correct and i rate it a 3 when all cleaned up. can anyone tell me what kind of value it might be worth? I am toying with selling it as i just cant afford to get it all fixed up the way i want it and at the same time i dont want it to go to shi* sitting in my driveway. it has ps/pb/nice black top/good tires bfg raised whites. hood tach black deluxe. not much options but i just cant find a good way to price it. thanx.
Prices for Firebirds seems to be all over the place. I just moved back to Kentucky from So. California and the prices here for first generation Firebirds seems to be higher than on the west coast. My recommendation would be to check the on-line auctions and recycler.com to get some comparisons. I am sure that you will be getting some hits from the FGF BB about your car.
I have been looking for a decent '67-'69 convertible that I can restore and I am seeing them as low as $4,000-5,000 and as high as $16,000-18,000 with some of the lower priced cars looking better than the higher priced cars.
To me, the more original parts that are available the more value. I am seeing some pretty nice "looking", high priced Firebirds, only to find out they are pretty far from original and I would have to spend money/time to get them back.
I have been in your situation several times in the past and have always regretted selling my cars, but you have to do what is best for you and your family and hope you can find another one in the future when you are in a better situation.
I had a numbers matching '68 350 convertible I sold about 2 years ago. It sounds like mine was in about the same conditions as yours. I sold mine for $5500 and it went way too quickly which tells me my price was quite low. I also sold it in the Northeast and rust free cars are rare up here so that will raise the selling price a bit. I've seen cars go in the condition yours sounds like from anywhere in the $6000 - $9500 range. Check out this site and do a search for Firebirds for sale under collector cars to get an idea.
thanks guys. i had someone offer me 7500 cash without even looking at it! i wont let it go or i cant let it go is more like it.lol. i keep hearing i will regret it.
It sounds like $7,500 is a decent offer but I'd bet you'd get between $8,000 to $9,500 if you listed it on Ebay and did a nice cleanup up with lots of pictures. The non matching #'s part is what hurts the value the most as anything else but that can be fixed. Let us know what you end up getting for her.
I bought my 67 down in the North Bay 3 years ago for $5k and it needed a motor, but the rest was about a 7/8, and that was a SCREAMING deal...
Glad you snapped out of it! (must be the ink fumes at work!) Yes, even a non numbers matching but with a few nice options such as the hood tach etc... and if I remember correctly, is it black on black? Well, all in all, I'd say you would have (had) no problem getting $10k - $13k for it!
You and I may not pay that much for them (as we would shop harder and search longer etc...) But there are LOTS of buyers out there that will pay the right price for a nice start on a convertible muscle car!
And it all comes down to what it's worth to YOU in the end... if it's woth $18K to you... don't settle for anything less... you may not get a buyer for a long time (not that you'd sell it anyway) but eventually, it would be worth that to someone else too...
I've had a few cars that I didn't want to sell for less, and priced them way above "Market" value, and it took a while, but they sold for what "I" was willing to let them go for...
well i guess i better go work at taco bell so i can afford to get it fixed up the way i want to. wait toxic smell wont support an old car habbit!!! well maybe i'll just find an extra printing job. man i hate these love hate relationships!!!!! my wife hates it too cuz she wants me to sell it but everytime she goes for a wild fast ride she has a great laugh. so do my kids. i even laugh when i punch it and it throws me back against the seat! thats it i'm keeping til rust do us part. lol
