Well, it's a very rare carb, so I didn't want to announce this one to the world, but I just got this on epay....
7028271 Quadrajet

The seller has good feedback and his ID goes back to '05, and the photos looked legit as far as I could tell, but I am no expert. The carb looks just like my 7028276, and the stamp seems to have the correct font, position, and spacing. It does not look like the surface under the stamp was milled, but the detail of the photo is not great.

Any opinions are welcome, as are snarks at me for paying such an outrageous amount for a carb that still needs to be restored. (I'll be checking back here from my cot in the garage, which I will likely be sleeping on tonight. )

By the way, that is not much for a one of 1300 carb production.. There are not that many left.

Do any of them have that tab that was supposed to be on the Firebird carbs to keep it from making as much hp as the GTO? I'd like to see one!

I'm not so sure it was a tab... Maybe just a bent piece of linkage??? wink

Fabulous Firebirds refers to it as a tab which is why I'd like to see an original one. It would have been easier to change the secondary linkage just a bit to achieve the same thing.

As you know, Fabulous Firebirds has been caught publishing some 'myths'. I haven't proven this one either way... But I have seen many original carbs that had the secondary linkage 'bent' so that the back barrels do not open all the way. Bend it a little and you have 'full throttle'.

That's a crazy price for a qjet!!!(I'm not one concerned with originallity so much)
That being said you got a good deal on it if it is indeed an original piece.
Where do you plan to get it refurbished? What's the average to replate and rebuild?

Cliff Ruggles is a good source. I believe it's $300-$400 for a replate and rebuild.

Wow, looks like I got great deal on the one I bought several years back!! I feel good!! Mine was super clean when I got it, that one on ebay looked rough! Sometimes you get lucky!

I second Jim concerning Cliff Ruggles. Only the costs differ slightly... Paid USD 1400.00 for a date correct rebuilt unit for my 68 400cci AT + tax and s&h to Germany frown Nevertheless, worth every dime - at least in my opinion. Perfect work.
If you want to have your own core redone then take some time. Last time I asked they had a queue time of more than one year...

$300-$400 for a R&R from Cliff would be real good. I think it cost me around $240 for just the parts to do mine. Then I had to go out and buy some of the tools and his book too. I'm not sorry I did it myself but time is worth more than money to me these days.

Cliff quoted me that price without any parts needed other than the kit. Parts were extra. And it was about two years ago.

I was going to say...that sounds about right for labor. Afterall he is the man. That turnaround is a killer though.

Woohoo!
Sounds like the consensus is that this is the real deal (and a good deal!)
I didn't even have to sleep in the garage! (God I love that woman).

I still need to see the real thing in person, and I'm still waiting for the seller, but I'm getting psyched now. Thanks for the advice on Cliff Ruggles. Custom Rebuilt Carburetors did my 7028276 for me, for about that price, and I was happy with it. However, with a carb this rare, I don't want to take any chances, so I'll try Ruggles.

When I joined this forum two and a half years ago, I was looking for 3 major pieces to get my car back to PHS originality; A console, an 8 Track, and a 7028271...

THAT'S IT!!! THAT'S THE FINAL PIECE OF THE PUZZLE!! I'M DONE!!! I'M THERE BABY!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!
