I having problems with my '68 Firebird with non-rally gauges. The problems is Speedometer/fuel background lights that doesn't working right. When i pulled the head light switch on and off, it still not coming on background lights. I did replaced all light bulbs, relays, steering wheel wiring harness, etc., still nothing working for me. I took my car to the shop, nobody knows how to fixing it. I'm stuck with my speedo/fuel background lights! How can i do with it?
Richard , Im not sure on the 68 (mine is 69) , but it sounds to me like bad ground..?On mine the bulbs there are fit into small bayonette type fitting thatr twist into the back...I had truouble there first , w no ground..
(There`s a couple of 67,68`s in our local group, maybe they would have info..hope to see you at our 'meet')
Do your other dash lights work? Ashtray, heater controls should come on as well.There should be a ground coming off the back of the speedo cluster to the center top mounting screw, put a jumper from this ground to a clean ground on the dash and test. Also check to see that the wiring harness is plugged in properly to the back of the cluster and that you don't have a blown fuse. If they still don't work try a different headlight switch.
