Installed a Pontiac 400 with RARE long branch manifolds which came with their oil filter adapter. After bolting in the engine, I went to install the oil filter and adapter.
There isn't enough clearance and the oil filter is hitting the edge of the trans bell housing.
Has anyone run into this before or can offer suggestions? If pictures would make this clearer, I can post later.
I believe he is saying that he got the angled adapter from RARE as it came with the manifolds.
A photo probably would be a good idea.

Sounds to me he bought the adapter from RARE not the housing. You need both, the adapter and the angled housing. If you look at my pics on my photobucket site you will see exactly what we are refering too.
I did the exact same thing. I hade the LB manifolds from RARE along with the adapter, however, I had the wrong oil filter housing. If you get the correct parts you will NOT need an oil filter relocator therefore it will look much cleaner/stock IMO...
I thought the oil filter issue was one of the big advantages for the Ram Air manifolds.
You should see all the clearance I have for my normal 90 degree fitting with Doug's Headers.

If you have the correct adapter, correct filter housing & correct oil filter, everything will fit as it should. You should not have to drop your exhaust to do an oil change. I can't imagine back in the day they would have had to do that.
Spiderman, it looks like you have the correct oil filter housing, try using a wix filter (Napa) as they are identical to the original in diameter and legnth. It looks to me that oil filter you are attempting to use may be too big in diameter. If so, that may be your problem in itself...
No I don't not have to drop my exhaust to change filter. I use a A.C. PF-24 oil filter When you do pull filter some oil will get on exh. manifold though it will burn off so it's no big deal.
Spider, you've got the wrong oil filter bracket. The first e-bay pic that 68firebird400 posted of the bracket is the wrong bracket, it's the one you have. The GTO one tilts inward towards the motor and is wrong and won't work with LB's. The second e-bay pic is the right one - the firebird bracket that points the filter straight down (then angles towards the firewall with the adaptor). Believe me on this one.

I had a closer look at my adapter and you're exactly right. Mine tilts in towards the housing (45 degrees?). I'm sure the one I need is the 90 degree adapter (2nd Ebay). I'll pick one of these up and post the results. Thanks for all the help everyone! Trevor
Spiderman, once you get the right oil filter housing everything will fit just right and you will be very happy with the outcome. You will also be VERY happy with the LBMs! The sound you get from them is just amazing. Much deeper and less tinny than headers...
For transmission reasons, I was short on room and now use a PF61 A-C filter. It is smaller, but threads to the oil filter adapter properly. I am using the L.B. manifolds and the adapter for said exhaust.
