My 69 350 HO 4-Speed Matador Red Coupe restoration is moving along. Engine completely rebuilt and bored 30 over with mild street cam addition. This car came from the factory with idiot lights and as far as I can tell it never has had any aftermarket gauges installed. Having an expensive-fresh motor now under the hood and only idiot lights makes me more than a little concerned. Ideally I would like to make it look as factory as possible. I see that Classic Industries sells a unit that looks just like the original factory Rally Gauge package. My question is whether anyone in the forum has attempted to add this gauge set to their car and if so how did it work? I am assuming though that I need to change out the underdash wiring harness which is an expensive and time consuming proposition. Also, it looks like CI does not offer the other components (sending units, lines, etc?) to hook up the guage cluster. Are all the components readily available or does someone make a turn-key kit? Maybe I should just add some nice looking aftermarket guages under the ashtray area like I did with my first 69 350 4-Speed Matator Red Coupe that I bought in 1971. Thanks for any suggestions.
I will be installing a factory gauge cluster in my convertible. I think the brown wire has to be relocated on the plug. Do a search in the archives to make sure of the switch. And yes, you will have to change the sending units.
