I just noticed there is no (don't know what to call it" The weighted liquid filled canister in the convertible. There are two in the trunk and the one on the passenger front is missing. I assume there was one in all 4 corners. If so does anyone know where to get one? What do they do???
Thanks

The 'cocktail shakers' are harmonic vibration dampeners. They were only used in the first gen F bodys. They can be found from time to time on eBay. The '69 'shakers' have different mounting brackets.
Your are slightly more fortunate to be looking for a 1967 unit. You can use one from 67 or 68. 68's use an additional bracket that is hard to find. Ask me how I know
They usually go for around $100 - $150 per unit plus expensive shipping because they are quite heavy.
There are a few on Ebay at any one time. Hit and miss for the one you need though. Here is what I find as of right now, only 1 auction with the front right one though and its for a pair...
On a side note, can someone post a picture or link showing where the front ones are located? I never have looked for mine before and just did. I cant locate the front ones. I have both of the back ones in the truck, but just dont see where my front ones are. Maybe I am missing them too... DOH!
cocktail shakers = vibration dampeners, ea 25Lbs, one in ea corner of F body convertibles....oil filled with a spring mounted steel weight inside.... 'some' cars had vibrations, all got them installed, many are removed to loose weight ..many cars have no impact from them being removed... yesterday I saw two cars in our group that only had two..one car was missing the fronts, one was missing the rears, and neither had and vibration problem...IF you dont have a problem ,why add in 100Lbs? unless it s just for concourse correct...my car has all 4 , and I dont intend t take them out to check and see...

From what I can see on my 67, I do not have either of the front ones. But I do not notice any strange vibrations when driving other than typical 40 year old car rattles, so I am not too worried about it. Has anyone actually experienced these supposed "vibrations" that can shed some light on what they might feel like or when they may occur so those of us without the shakers can determine if we in fact have them? Are they that bad that you would know? lol.. Im assuming that they would be.
Anyway, I am not going to worry too bad about the missing front ones.

I have not but I can tell you a story that may have something to do with it.
My dad bought his bird new in '67, and only had it 5 years. As a kid (born in '62) I thought the bird was the coolest car ever( I was rather advanced for my age). At the time we lived in the DC metro area so my dad drove the capitol beltway every day it used to have "seams" or expansion joints pretty close. I can recall news stories of them buckling and causing a lane to close. Anyway, when I asked Dad why he got rid of the bird he said that when he would drive over those "seams" the ask end of the bird would change lanes and pass him. He kinda said it jokingly but he did have 2 large lead bricks that he kept in the trunk to help keep the rear in check. ( someplace a large scintillation counter is missing it's shields)
I assume he had the shakers unless some early birds didn't get 'em ?
His experience may not have anything to do with shakers but along with information from others perhaps it will help?
They were installed due to a very flexible body in the convertible models because of the lack of the roof structure. Some reinforcement was added to the convertible rockers and floors but it wasn't enough to prevent all vibration problems. The cocktail shakers are large cans with a suspended mass on a spring in a viscous fluid that are mounted on the corners - 4 in all. They were tuned to a resonant frequency of the convertible that caused the vibration problems. When the body was subjected to loading that would otherwise tend to make it oscillate, much of the energy was instead absorbed by the motion of the masses in the cocktail shakers - which reduced the vibration in the convertible body.
Link not working for some reason. And you would need to confirm it's for a 67-68 because the auction says 67-69...
