I have decided to rewire the entire car. I was wondering where you recommend getting harnesses. I see Classic has them. Anywhere else?
I also waws wondering if I should order the column shift or the console version. I originally had the shifter on the column and changed it to a B&M hammer shifter. I assume the neutral safety wiring would be different, anything else?
Anyone do this before? Any tips? Anything to watch out for?
Thanks

I originally ordered all my wiring harnesses from Classic industries. Then I found I needed a console harness and ordered it from somebody else.
It turns out everyone carries the same factory replacement harnesses from M & H.

who and what is the deal with this harness I hear about- Painless. Any experience with it?
1969 Firebird 350 Coupe, Rust free Texas body, formerly brown, now a TA clone with quality spoiler, latching hood and TA wheel; 1969 GTO Convertible Expresso Brown/Parchment(currently painted red). Both numbers matching. My first love was a Cameo White 67 326 Coupe, bought back in 1983, at the age of 17, for $1,200. Been hooked since on PONTIAC! Working on a 67 400 ragtop for customization-Gulf Turquoise/Parchment/400/4 spd! My winter project!
I went through Ames, and like salmon said they go through M&H also. I had some questions about the harness since I was getting mine modified for HEI and internally regulated alt and called M&H. They are great to work with. I don't think its any cheaper to buy dirrect but it may be the better way to go if you end up needing to ask any questions or need any help.
I recently bought an entire car harness from American Autowire. I haven't got as far as putting it in yet but it looks pretty good. It's not like an original replacement though so it depends what you're looking for. Came with a new ignition switch, headlight switch, and brights switch as well as all the connectors, light sockets, and fuse panel. I think all I need to do is possibly add a couple wires for gauges and wrap the whole thing in tape.
I recently completed a full rewire with the AAW kit. With the classic upgrade kit you get a new spade type fuse box and a set of "new" circuits for upgrades like power windows, seats, etc that you can use to add on to the original harness. I used one of these circuits to fuse my power top in the box instead of through the horn relay w/a fuse on the firewall. The kit was very complete and included new sockets for all the lights. The only thing I needed to purchase in addition to the kit was harness tape, everything else was there. The 40yr old wire was very brittle in some places!
i agree with dan67bird i bought a american wire hareness for my 1968 firebird from ebay 499.99 its a very good kit and the tech support was very helpful. the instructions very very good and straightforward. stay away from painless wire there were anything but painless.
