I have new header moldings to replace originals. Any tricks on removing the moldings? Any help is appreciated. Also I'm replacing quarter chrome fins and am finding it very difficult to get the nuts on the driver bottom ones. Any body have any new ways to fasten that looks good? Thanks
There's really no trick. They come off hard. The repro's go back on hard too. You have to push and coax them on. They fit terrible! It's even hard to get the screw holes to line up. It's a very hard job with often dissapointing results. If you can get NOS replacement pieces they are well worth it.
I got the repros from Year One about 8 years ago. They were hard going on. The chrome on the top cracked in one small spot. Since they weren't supposed to be all chrome anyway, I sanded down the area that wasn't supposed to be chrome and used silver Krylon in that area. It turned out very good and is still holding on good.
Bought mine from Classic 6 yrs ago, it lasted 3 yrs ,started scratching off from use.... just took it off then and bought the visor 'knuckles'for a 68 ,so its all chrome....not 'correct', but I think it looks good...and obviously the "judges" in the APA show didnt care...LOL
I think Ralph Nader attacked GM on these because of the glare.... He got on a roll with the Corvair and just wouldn't quit. I think he proved some crashes were the result of drivers of other cars getting blinded by the BLING.

I remember that, but I cannot see how anyone can be blinded by these, esp since they are rounded...not much of a 'beam' to blind you...(Poor Nader..he was really stretching...too bad people listened to him).....IF the sun hits these ,it would only be for a mini second....what bothers me normally is now that they dont inspect the lights anymore , you get lots of people driving around with low beams like they are high beams...and fog lights (to look cool) ...and when you get a huge SUV behind you at night you cant see Chit!...or the new 'blue' lights that seem to blind you more...
