I am currently going to purchase a 67 326 Firebird...i had a few questions though. Did the 326 cars come with an arrowhead in the front bumper, or Disc Brakes? Another questions is i was looking for the body tag and it doesnt have it. Should i still purchase the car? What is another way i can find out what type of car it would be. Thanks for the help Gabriel
hey banshee how does this affect the value of the car since it is missing the cowltag???? is it a real big deal since it is missing or could he buy the car and fix it up and still get his money worth if he ever sold it??? how common is it for a car to be missing the cowltag?? would it be possible for a 326 to have an arrowhead emblem?? joe
Joes Burd, if a 326 has an arrow head bumper , it means its been replaced w a 400 bumper at some time , maybe after being in a wreck... only 400`s had the arrow head
OR ....maybe the 400 car had an engine replaced w 326 , kinda unlikely though, but not impossible...everything is possible....you never know what some people do... and if the tag is missing, who knows....
Though I'm happy to volunteer to help you out, this one is a little outside of my area of expertise. I am still learning the ins and outs of the Firebirds with respect to cowl tag decoding. I would guess that the cowl tag is really there, just hidden under a coat of paint or some grime as mine turned out to be.
As for the authenticity - there's no substitute for the PHS documents. I would advise you to order them if you are seriously considering the car for its collector value. IF you are just loking to make it into your own personal project car, then perhaps the price vs. condition would be your most important factor.
hey banshee i'm gabriel's bud he gave the guy an offer of $1,800 and he is going to give him a reply tonight i didn't go with gabriel to see it up close but i told him he probabbly over looked the cowltag but i guess we will see what happens joe
hey guys thanks for the replys i will go over the to the guys house and take some pics of the car so i can share with you guys. What exactly would i need to know about the car to get the PHS documents?
Vin number is not located on the dash for a '67. It should be on the drivers side door hinge pillar. Open the drivers door and look for a metal tag riveted in the front jamb area.
Lonelybird, did you say $1800.00? Is there a zero missing in there somewhere? Don't any of you folks EVER ask me what I paid for my little '68 "project"! I'd say buy it unless it is actually on-fire while you are haggling the price.

Ok guys this is the body tag it was there but i couldnt see because it was night time. I tried to decode but i dont know what the other letters are all about. For instance, 711 on the top left corner of the body tag. Let me know what type of options it had. Oh and the vin number is 223377U107884. Thanks Guys. let me know of what you guys think. The guy told me he will sell fro 2500.
Still a screaming deal if it's at all solid (in LA it should be unless it's a coast car) even then it sounds like it's worth it. Hard to find anything in any shape under $3k.
Looks like you should be able to get most of the Body tag info from Geoff's site, which it sounds like you have. (nice original color by the way) and Geoff may be able to give you more info on the 711 code?
Anyway, I wish you luck, and I hope you can get the car!
$2500 sounds like a good deal, if it drives, has no rust to talk about, no matter which engine it has or had, color or disc/drums....not to mention if its a convertible, but even for a coupe its good... As long as you dont buy a car that could get you in trouble = switched body tag , added to stolen car or such... get all paper work!
This should get a laugh from some of the Firebird Pros:
Ah, I see the price is going up...... Offer him 2K cash and offer to drag it home, acting like you are wasting your money but feel sorry for HIM. Shake your head alot. Make a few fake phone calls off the cellphone to buddy experts. Pretend to call the wife and act as if she is begging to talk you out of it, all this within his earshot. A good wife will actually participate in this ploy as mine did. I just ran a simple Tag check on the numbers you posted, as most others probably did, unless the frame is warped or theres bloody body parts in the trunk I think you should go for it!! Buy, BUY! PS - I wound up spending twice as much as I had intended...but I love my Firebird!
