I know a few of you have installed a 200-4R in your First Gen. I intend to do the same on my '67 and would like to use the factory shifter. But before sending the console-mounted shift arm out for re-chroming, I thought I'd better make sure it will work with the new tranny.
Will it? Is the shift gate housing too deep? Will the linkage also line up, or will I have to find another way to connect the shifter to the tranny.
We used to have a good archives on this subject, but I'll be darned if I can find it now.
The last 2 issues of Hemmings Muscle Machines (April/May2008) have had a detailed 2-part article on installing a 200-4R in a '67 Camaro.
They had issues with the tranny crossover and their orginal Powerglide shifter being too deep. The TH 400 shifter worked.
I laugh about how they called the one-year-only big block (TH 400) shifter for '67 being hard to find. They had to get one off a Nova.

The shifter will work fine. I bought a kit from shiftworks for the cable to mount on the trans. I also bought a tranny crossover that lets you bolt the 200r right up. I didn't want to modify my stock cross over. You may ave to modify your exhaust for the new tranny mount.
