I am planning a repaint for the ole girl this coming Fall. We will either go silver again or do a color change and go with Mayfair Maze. One thing I have notice is there seems to be two versions of Mayfair Maze, a lighter paler version and then there is a brighter more yellow version. The paler/lighter version is the one I like.
Anyone been through this already? If so, what brand have you used and does it match up well with the original color etc.?
Car was originally Vedoro Green but I just can't get myself to go that route. Although I love the color on the larger Pontiacs I just don't care for it on the FGF...
The brighter more yellow version is "golden rod yellow" think new for 1969 color. I have the 1969 Pontiac paint color numbers. PM me your direct email and I will send.
The color I was looking at was called Mayfair Maze but they were listed as two different years 68 & 69. This was in a Pontiac catalog I was looking at a couple of weeks ago...
If you want me I can look for the exact specifications of the Glasurit´s color - it´s already a modern water based color (I got my car painted nearly one year ago; the other paints will be forbidden in Germany within the near future and I wanted to keep the chance to repaint any parts if I ever happen to have an accident with this car...). I will have to look for it anyhow because I´m just adjusting my new - correct - 68 400 hood that still has to be painted, too...
It exactly copies the color seen on the small 1:18 Exact Detail cars...
(BTW - to get higher resolution pics please copy and paste them in another folder and re-open them again; it´s this site´s automatic downgrading of high res pics again...)
Thanks for the compliments! Took me nearly 9 years and - concerning the 68 hood with hood tach - it´s still not finished. But will be this month - at least that´s what I promised myself
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. Trust me, I am ALL for the Mayfair Maize. It's my better half that doesn't like the color. She really would like silver again. I just can't see doing to the same color again. However, I must admit we have had so many people over the years compliment the silver time and time again. We have some time to argue, I mean discuss this...
It all depends which way you want to go. Silver is the most seen color on cars over here in Germany. We have three daily drivers and they all are painted silver - although in different shades! Silver is a modern color - so if you want to go this route, why not?
I wanted to pursue the stock route - the more stock the better This Mayfair Maize is an really old-fashioned color, you don´t see it anymore and therefore it´s an REAL eyecatcher!
Okay, sinister sounding 8-cylinders probably are less common over here than in the USA but if you want to see some jaws dropping then cruise around in an 68 Firebird painted Mayfair Maize...
