Are disc and drum spindles dimensionally the same as far as the steering arms attachment points go? I replaced the drum with disc spindles and just bolted up the old steering arms without affecting the tie rod lengths. Will my toe in be the same as before?
Probably but you should check it anyway. It's not worth a pair of tires if it's out. I've taken my springs out 3 or 4 times now(removed spindles) and the toe hasn't changed.
Thats odd, Bob, especially if you used the same steering arms. Maybe someone else will chime in and well ALL learn something lol. But with the same steering arms being used, it should have been identical before and after.
He says, "The car just got back from alignment"...... Which means we are relying on the service tech(s) from, probably, too different alignments as confirmation here. Either one, or both, could be a little off.....
I used the same steering arms and left the tie rods undisturbed. There was a definite difference with the new spindles. I could see excessive toe in and the car drove funny, which was confirmed by the alignment shop. I think the steering arm mounts aren't at exactly the same location in space as with the other spindles. It wouldn't take much to affect the toe.
You may be right, Bob. Now ya done got me so curious, Im gonna hafta drag out some of my old spindles and do some measuring, cuz Ive always thought they were the same.
It does sound strange. Did you use stock spindles or aftermarkets? Stock should bolt to the steering arms in exactly the same place. But then again once you bust the ball joints loose all bets are off. Did you replace them while you had it apart?
