I've tried a couple of tire joints in an effort to have my space saver spare dismounted. I need to refinish the rim. But I'm being told that they can't remove the tire.
I understand that the bead is a little different, but can't possibly imagine that they can't separate the two.
Maybe they just don't want to touch a 40 year old tire and be liable.Maybe they also don't think they can get it off as is (deflated)without damaging the bead/etc... Possibly inflate it and try it then?

I left mine mounted and taped the living crap out of it. Took it to the glass bead cabinet and cleaned it up, then primed and painted it. Sure it's not perfect, but stuck up in its cubby hole, who's going to see it? By now, I wouldn't trust it for its intended purpose anyway.
I saw Pete's and it LOOKED AMAZING. Just do t that way, believe me, it was stellar. Pete, did you use duct tape or what?
