I am not a fan of K&N air filters. IMO they are overpriced for what they are. I also think there is some false advertising when they state "Up to 10% more horsepower". So they are telling me in a 300hp engine I would gain 30 more HP - BUNK
I guess the caveat is "Up To"
Anyway stuck with hood clearance issues, using a drop base, the only 2" x 14" element made is by K&N
Anyone know of a dry air filter that is 2" Fram, Delco, Acme?
On occasion, there may be a vehicle that will net some gain, but most of the time, the net is zero hp. One issue that they rely on with newer model cars is that the factory airbox cfm intake exceeds the throttle body's cfm. That means that the factory airbox/filter already can supply more air than the engine can gulp.
I don't know what your running for a breather, but I have a 77, 400 grand prix breather. Not that I'm a fan of Fram fliters and I wouldn't use one on my car for oil, I use a fram C-136 filter and don't have a clue as to how tall it stands.
Can tell you from 1/4 testing, a same size k&n filter made no diff in speed/time on our cars around here. Stock to 1000 hp engines. We use cheap no name filters. Thier like $3, and last all summer unless the track's we're at have alot of dust/dirt blow'n around.
Not sure on your set up, but i use a cheap drop base a/clnr with a 3X14 filter on top of an RPM intake and 1/2 spacer plate. There's still about 1/2" hood clearence.
I have a cheap drop base flat lid cleaner on a '68 with a tall emissions intake under a flat hood, still have clearance with a 3" filter. Just watch the stud length first time you close the hood. Another option is to use a stock base, but an undersized lid (filter element diameter) so that you are not restricted by the snorkel, just swap lids on show days.

I like the K & N , mostly for looks...the "up to" sounds like a political ad...LOL...UP TO, meaning NOT OVER...but less... just like anything else advertised.... "this laundry detergent will give you "up to" 45 loads of wash"....LOL
