I am no longer a firebird owner, I sold it today. It was a tough decision, but due to the circumstances I think it was correct. Thank you everyone for your help and knowledge the last couple years.
I'm sorry, Brad. Especially rough now that the weather is finally right to start driving...
When you get comfortably situated again and the 'bird bug bites you, you certainly have the right resources to find another, and you'll be a better educated buyer.
Oh...and you don't actually have to own a 'bird to visit this site.
If you get the bug to work on a non-Chrysler product, come on over. Plenty of 'birds to keep busy on here.

It does blow, but I keep trying to tell myself it was the right thing to do.
When you do the right thing it always works out for you in the long run... You show your strength by doing the right thing. There's way too many people who do anything they please and they pay for it dearly later... Can you fill us in on the new owner? Local?
Yeah a local guy bought it, his name is Dan. It's his first bird. He came and looked at it on Thursday, and came back this morning and took it home. I wish it would have happened a little slower though so I could have put it on this sight for sale.
that IS a sad day....BUT, if you did the rigght thing and things look up later, you might own one again! I sold my first bird (68 350 coupe)in 1970, due to not having health insurance ,and needed surgery....BUT right at 30 yrs later, I got my second....and I enjoy this one so much more.... take care, keep visiting...and hopefully you`ll have another later....AND, get the new owner Dan onto this site...you can keep up with the car!
who knows 5 yrs from now you`ll be looking and he may be selling!?!
Sorry to hear you had to sell it I'll nominate you as a lifetime member here.

I didn't have to sell my car, I just thought it made since just- in-case. My wife and I are gainfully employed and we live very comfortably, but that could change at a moments notice. I work in the automotive business and as most of you know it's a struggle right now. The struggles in the automotive busness here pretty much trickles down to everything one way or another. I decided to sell my car when I could and not when I had to. The sale happened very fast, but I was able to take it out a few times this spring.
Yes, there is no doubt that our economy is suffering from the auto industry decline. Cutting the wages of the people who make the product trickles down through all our industries as the consumer base shrinks.
A lot of young, talented people are leaving the state, leaving some good opportunities for people like me who are well established here and willing and able to adapt to the declining market.
Far better to sell for what you want, when you choose, than to wait and have to accept what you can get when you need it. You made a tough, but good, decision.

I understand your thinking.... It's like standing in a line for a firing squad. You watch people to your left and right get shot and feel that you have to do something extra to protect yourself. And even though you are the only one with a bullet-proof vest on, you still worry. The most amazing thing is the others in the line that do not have 'the vest' are happily standing there looking like they don't have a care in the world and aren't willing to make any changes. They keep plunging, headlong, down the same paths they have been that got them 'in the line of fire'. You are blessed to have the insight to make the changes that the others ignore... That's what makes you a survivor and not a sheep.
There is always the possibility of a head shot. No matter how bullet-proof you make yourself, the big guns still call the shots.
That's why I focused on growing my business for 20 years; I was able to diversify my client base and not be dependent upon one market segment. When I committed myself to one client, I gave up my safety net in exchange for a very healthy income.
This is life; rules don't apply in the ways one would expect. It used to be that if you did your job to the best of your ability and succeeded at everything that was tasked to you, then you'd collect your pay and it would be the same old routine until you decided to move on. Not any more.

Now you need two-three years operating funds ahead to be safe.... At least that's what the true survivors think.... Some people live as if they have some sort of safety net that will save them when the fall. Some have that, some just act like they have a net.
Since I made the choice to invest most of my potentially billable hours to raising my family, I passed up a lot of income that could have been stashed away for just such an event. But money can be earned, and replaced...childhood cannot. And as I have been self-employed, no worker's comp, no unemployment insurance, no 401K, no safety net. And I would not change a thing...my kids are worth far more to me than money could ever buy.
