What kind of horsepower can you run through a factory style Muncie? Anyone out there running the Supercase set-up with an iron midplate,500 plus hp ok? Just for background I am hoping for 470-500 hp from a 30 over 455 but may try to get a little more if my budget allows. I was planning on the Tremec TKO600 but the Muncie should be cheaper to build. I am starting to gather parts and want to know if I am on the right track. Opinions?
I believe the Muncies are pretty tough units if the gearing is OK for what you are after...after that it's just a matter of how many $'s ya want to plug down. I had my Muncie rebuilt for $700 and shifts great....but I'm more an originality freak so there ya go

Same scenario with mine. The car is in your horsepower range and I am running a Muncie that was rebuilt about 5 years ago and 3.42 rear end with an Auburn locker. I drive the car on the street and go to the track once or twice a month. No problems with the M22 set up. Pretty dependable so far
Like David said with the horsepower you are looking for you need to consider how streeable you want a 4 speed. My story is probably a common scenario Big Horsepower (YAHHH BABY ), change to the HD clutch, stronger rear axles. Need traction , then rear suspension gets upgraded.....it never ends. God I love it !!!
I would use an M-20 with that gearing, the factory didn't put a M-21/22 in any car with a gear ratio lower than 3.73. It will come off the line much better with the wide ratio box. When I had my car on the road (currently in pieces)it ran great with an M-20 & 3.55 gears in the back.
I have bolted frame connectors, I am running a convertible. I have poly bushings on the frame. I purchased the car with the M22 and agree M20/21 is probably a better set up, but I love the rock crusher whine. I went with 3.42 to keep the revs down on the street
