I want to replace the speedo cable and housing on my 69, not sure what to get. The cable I have on it now has the "slip on" end for the speedo but the back of the speedometer is threaded like the cable should thread on. Anyone know what I should buy? 69 400 TH400. Thanks
In 69 they changed over to the slide on type. You could have an early one with the thread on style. If you do not have the spring clip for the slide on and you have threads, then you definitely want the screw on cable. This guy knows his cables and will fix you up for $20 plus shipping. The 67/8's had a thread on on the speedo side, you need the slip on, either 62" or 71", depending on auto or manual tranny I believe....oh TH400, likely the 71" then....
Classic has the listed as KW876/62" amd KW877/71".
The 62" is too long for a 69. It works but it has to loop around behind the distributor. The actual is 57" for a 69 TH 400. I would have expected the push on speedo end, but if it's threaded, that's what you need. By the way, the cheap replacement I bought leaks like a sieve from the trans end. The crimp to the cable housing is junk. Look for an original GM if you can get one.
