I have a leak in one of my lift cylinders and have bled lines and taken out the culprit out. So for now I can operate the top manually if necessary. It may just be the o ring for the fitting since it was damaged. It took me some time to figure out the problem since the power top was functioning but every once in a while I would get a small spill in front of the rear wheel on the drivers side. Before I put it back in I had been thinking about just replacing both cylinders and avoiding alot of messing around.
Convertible Service sells a set for $139. They also have the filling and bleeding tool which looks like a must.
I read that the vehicle manual has a good description of how to reinstall cylinders and recharge the lines. Does anyone have that information?
Any advice or experience with this problem or advice on the best source for a quality lift cylinders?
I have the original manual with my 69 Bird convertible. It has the manual top, but might have the relative info in it. I'll look tonight and let you know.
I've got a book or two on it. And have redone a few. From my experience, it's best to get yourself two new rams. They are easy to fill/bleed and you do not need any special tools. I've posted the instructions for bleeding on this board. If you can't find it with a search I can post it again. It sounds like all you have to do is replace the rams and fill/bleed the system.
Here are some instructions from the manual(different views of the same page). As far as that bleeder plug, I use rubber tubing and wrap electrical tape around it in a taper so it wedges in the filler hole of the pump. That works good....
