Hello; I dropped the top on my 69 convert, and shortly after had an oil leak below the top's motor on the driver's side of the car, just in front of the rear tire.

Any thoughts on what the problem is and the best way to get to it and fix the problem?

This problem has been frequently covered in this forum; the search feature will turn up a number of solutions and procedures.

It sounds like your leak is at the cylinder (sides of the car) not the pump or tank (middle of the car). If so, you'll want to replace BOTH cylinders.

First thing to do is clean up all the dirt and oil and check your connections. It may be just a loose tube, if you are very lucky.

could also be a plastic cracked line...if they are old...
