On my first post here I told the story of my Fathers bird and how I thought it was the coolest car ever. Neither my Dad nor I could remember if it was a '67 or '68 but I thought it must have been a '67. Anyway some photos have surfaced and I thought I would share.
That's me in front of the bird and my younger brother with the yellow case.(Note the mini in the background...kinda cool)
That's Dad foolin' around.
"lookin' sharp!"
Man I loved that car! Sadly he sold it after about 4 or 5 years but we had the VW for many years.
Just think what that would be worth today if it were sitting in your driveway in that condition!
Great color combo too!
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I feel like I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe. 1968 400 convertible (Scarlet) 1976 T/A - 455 LE (No Burt) 1976 T/A New baby, starting full restoration. 1968 350 - 4 speed 'vert - 400 clone (the Beast!) 1968 350 convertible - Wife's car now- 400 clone (Aleutian Blue) (Blue Angel) 2008 Durango - DD 2008 GXP - New one from NH is AWESOME! 2017 Durango Citadel - Modern is nice! HEMI is amazing! 1998 Silverado Z71 - Father-daughter project 1968 400 coupe - R/A clone (Blue Pearl) (sold) 1967 326 convertible - Sold 1980 T/A SE Bandit - Sold
hey, I see a 61 Dodge Lancer (red) there...cool...we had one of those...I used to "borrow" it for fun times....took it ice racing on the frozen lakes...it had a bench up front with a three spd on the floor, w/ a 'wrap around'the seat shifter! so that is a 67 bird, but pics are from 61or 62? or later? my first own car was a mini , a 63
yopu lived in a cool neighborhood....therss a MG A over there too, and the car under the cover in front of the mini , looks european too...a Jag? a Porsche?

Yeah, I've thought about that a few times!
Great color combo too!
The pictures don't do it justice. Mayfair with the black top is really sick.
He traded it for a '72 Buick skylark 2door(so I guess we must have had it for 5 years then). It was dark metalic green. He was gonna keep the Buick but that was the car that he learned about the pitfalls of leasing with. The buyout was way too much. then the gas crisis ( ...so called... ) of the early '70's came and he bought a '74Datsun 610. He prolly could have got a 240Z for the same money...go figure.
It must be great to have such cool pictures like that. Thanks for sharing. You definitely must feel a deep rooted kinship with a 1st generation Firebird. I have a 28 year relationship with them but that didn't get started until age 17. To have gotten a start at age 5 would bring a little more personal nastalgia to it. I have to relate to a 68 Impala to go back that far. But having to grow up in fat cars made the 'Birds even more attractive I think. I can remember a deep longing for any car that was sleek and had a black interior.
Right on....my affinity still sits (besides my now 28 year Bird association) was my dads 57 chev, and his 64 Pontiac Laurentian...(think that was a canuck model)....Still look at the 64 Ponchos with that nostalgiac longing....
I'll have do dig out some old photos one of these days

the earliest 'family' car we had was a brand new 1954 SIMCA Aronde.... of course my dad (divorced from my mom in 1947) had cars...he was in the air force , but worked part time for a car dealer (who later imported helicopters to Sweden) that sold Austins, Citroens,Kaisers,Frazers and Henry J`s....So I did get to ride those...my first wreck (passenger!) was in one of those Citroens...
I was raised in a 57 SuperChief(or StarChief?), and a 65 Bonny. Need to find out which sibling got the family photo albums. Theres pic's of them plus my dads 1st Pontiac. Straight 8 with running boards. Also of me and my brothers 67-68 FB's.
This was my dad's 66 Tempest. That's me in the grass.""
Cool, a bud of mine had one of those I liked it a lot. I think I might have had the red pants too

Carried a small pony to the vet in the back seat...roomy car.""
That's funny! Reminds me of traveling with my family in some station wagon we had...My mom would set-up a play-pen in the back for the kids. kinda like a mini jail.

My oldest brother(about 12 years older than I am),had a Henry J that he dumped a V8 into( around 1974 ). He had it parked on my dads property. until some stupid kids stole all the good stuff off it and broke the glass. darn shame that was!

Yeah you do! start calling today and get 'em posted.
Regarding the playpen in the back: My parents first new car after I was born was a 1964 Grand Prix. My car seat was a full size wood playpen in the back seat. Times have changed.
My Dad's choice in cars was always "this close" to a classic:
1956 Chevy 210, 4-door. Given away in 1969 to a guy as payment for painting our house.
1964 Chevy Chevelle.....station wagon. Totaled in 1969 during a family vacation. I still have the scars.
1969 Ford Ranch Wagon. 390 2-barrel as opposed to a 428. The vehicle I borrowed to drive in high school.
1964 Chevy Chevelle, 2 door. 283, Powerglide. Replaced the '56. Stolen out of the driveway 3 months before I started Driver's Ed. Would have been my high school car.
1974 Plymouth Duster.....straight 6. Replaced the 2nd Chevelle.
Choices got worse after that.
2012 Mustang Boss 302 #1918, Competition Orange. FGF replacement 2006 Mustang V6 Pony, Vista Blue. Factory ordered. 2019 BMW X3 (Titled to the wife, but I'm always driving it for her. So I'm claiming it) Old projects, gone but not forgotten: 1967 FB 400, original CA car. After 22 years of work, trashed by the guy who was supposed to paint it. I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI

Nope, Karmann Ghia. Love the Micro Bus too That was a cool neighborhood.
In Sweden as a 19-20 yr old I used t drive grocery deliveries in one of those microbuses...summer job...
a lady drives one of those Karmann Ghias here as a daily driver...its bright yellow, in pretty good shape and I see her almost once a week around my office area
